As Los Angeles prepares for the Olympic handover during the August 11 Closing Ceremony in Paris, plans are afoot for Tom Cruise to make a major appearance.
Already a presence at the Opening Ceremony and at some competitions, the Mission: Impossible star will be dropping in — literally — when the Olympic flag is handed over the 2028 games host city, source close to events have told Deadline.

Details of the Closing Ceremony are a closely held secret, but it known that L.A. Mayor Karen Bass to receive the Olympic flag from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. “Expect a major Hollywood production,” a well-positioned source tells Deadline.
NBC Sports declined comment on the CAA-repped Cruise’s involvement and other details about the Closing Ceremony handover.
Nearly 29 million tuned in for the Paris Opening Ceremony on July 26, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics. That’s up by more than 60% from the pandemic-delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which netted a mere 17 million viewers across NBC platforms as it took place in empty stadiums.
Chaired by Casey Wasserman, the 2028 Summer Olympics will run July 14-30 in Los Angeles, which also hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984. The city likely will kick off the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad at a venue built for the 1932 event: the Coliseum. It will be part of what LA28 organizers are calling the Downtown Sports Park, a collection of venues that includes Crypto.com Arena, the Convention Center, the BMO Stadium, USC’s Galen Center and the Peacock Theater.

The HALO jumps were actually done in the desert in California. The Paris cityscapes below (along with the weather pattern) were added in during the VFX stage.
